Paul’s Perspectives: A letter from InnoVergent CEO, Paul Cammisa
When I first started InnoVergent, I wanted to create a company that was different for both our clients and our employees. For our clients, I felt there was an opportunity to serve emerging companies that were too small for large consulting companies and too big for CPA firms to accommodate their needs. That’s where InnoVergent came in. We wanted to make a difference in a short period of time and see the results of our work almost instantly. We also wanted to provide individuals that came from the sort of businesses and backgrounds that our clients worked in. So as we grew, we made sure to hire former Accounting Managers, Controllers, Finance Managers and the like so that we could maintain “intelligent conversations” with our clients.
In the beginning, it was extremely difficult to sell cloud (SaaS as it was known then) to clients. There were many disappointing phone calls with prospects and folks that just didn’t understand that their data wouldn’t reside on a computer down the hall. Then in 2009-2010, our economy took a nose-dive and our business did all that we could to hang on, and in the end we succeeded.
It brings me to a point that I feel is worthy to mention: since I was a teenager, I was always hard working and willing to do whatever it took to get by and earn a dollar. My parents weren’t the type that gave me money or an allowance. If I wanted something, I had to earn the money to pay for it myself. Stated differently, I guess you could say I graduated from the school of hard knocks, but in the end, it has made me who I am today: a survivor, a go-getter, a risk taker, and an innovator.
I have always believed in being a contributor to our clients and our employees as without great employees, you don’t have great and happy clients. I frequently think of Tom Peters’ quote: “A relationship is not something that you pursue, it’s what happens to you when you are immersed in serving the dreams of your customer.”
In the future, we look to further foster our relationship with our strategic partners and continue working with our clients. There is nothing more gratifying than to see your clients realize their dreams and go along for the ride.
In closing, I want to say a very heart-felt thank you to all of our clients and our staff for making InnoVergent what it is today and I look forward with excitement to the next 10 years of our life.
