Perspectives from InnoVergent CEO Paul Cammisa
Climate change is happening all around us these days. If you follow the weather like many of us do, you know first hand just how extremely and uniquely warm it has been this summer —and it doesn’t matter where you live in the country, it’s just simply HOT! What’s interesting though is that several months back, we were wondering if it would ever warm up, as for some of us had a long and cold winter and were praying for warmth. What is it about being careful for what you ask for?
Our businesses and how we manage them can sometimes follow the path of the weather pattern: sometimes it’s cold and sometimes it’s hot. So to that end, I ask you, are you ready to weather those scenarios when they hit your business? Do you have enough cash to get you through the cold periods of business and keep your staff upbeat and motivated for warmer days? When your business starts to heat up, do you have the resources and the processes to manage that busy growth and upswing in your business activity?
Yes, it is true, earning lots of revenue has a tendency to cure a lot of ailments, but we shouldn’t have such a laissez-faire approach during these times. We should always be very cognizant of how we manage our business, our money and our employees. Ensuring that proper processes, technology and staff are in place, go a long way to ensuring scalable and positive growth without any revenue leakage or cost overruns.
From the technology side, be sure to utilize applications that provide you with real-time and accurate data at any time you desire in any format you desire. Your key resources should have access to all or portions of the same data in the same way, so that you are all on the same page when you review progress. Investing in the correct technology can go a long way in protecting you against sudden surprises good or bad, and as a business owner, that goes a long way in ensuring we have a good night’s rest.
Be sure to weather the business storm and like the weatherman, try to model the future in weeks and months as opposed to days and you’ll be sure to keep your temperatures at an even keel and grow the business responsibly and with purpose.
